tHANKS to all of you who offered us help, sent positive vibes, and did rain dances. We (lil Bentley, Missy & I) drove up Sunday afternoon, showed the ossifer our ID, and were allowed to drive to the lodge. Via Bailey there was no evidence of fire. Taking Hwy. 126 there was a few miles of scarred earth on both sides of the highway, just north of Pine. The fire crested on some ridges visible from Pine. There are still plenty of crews and helicopters in the area and from the lodge we heard copter buzzing all morning. The fire was no closer than three miles from us, maybe more, much farther away than the 1996 Buffalo Creek fire. My Star Trek figurines are still in fine shape, though mice did build a nest amongst some hiking shorts!
