If you have back pain and need a firm bed, this is the bed for you. I've been looking for years to get a very firm bed that did not have several inches of foam or padding on top and kept being told that the industry is not making those types of beds anymore. I've only had the bed for about 1 week, but it's been the best nights of sleep I've gotten in months if not years. The coil count is over 1100 for a King size bed and is made of 12 gauge wire for added firmness and support. This mattress has the pocketed coil system where if one person moves, the other person is not disturb by the motion. It is also a non-flip mattress, but I would recommend rotating the bed every couple of months just to get even wear. From what I’ve been told the mattress does come in other comfort levels as well – Firm, Plush and Pillow Top options. My recommendation is get the firm and then add a topper to make it softer because you can always make a firm bed feel softer, but it is nearly impossible to make a softer bed feel firmer. If you're looking for this mattress in the Mid-West, it is only sold at Mattress Giant stores. I'm sure Simmons sells the same mattress under a different name in other parts of the country.

Rover's Full Review: Simmons Beautyrest Mattress

I'm very happy with my Simmons! I've had my Simmons World Class 2X Firm mattress and box spring for about 6 months and I've never slept better. Each night seems to get a little more comfortable than the last, as the mattress mellows over time.

I spent about 6 years sleeping on a Serta pillow-top mattress that did not survive its 10 year warranty period and caused me chronic neck and back discomfort for at least a year... maybe two. When I finally decided that the Serta must go, I set out to find a firmer mattress that would hopefully not sag in the middle after a couple of years. It's a real pain when one must sleep at the edges of a mattress in order to find the proper support for their back.

I tested Simmons, Sealy, and Spring Air mattresses all over town, but had a hard time finding a mattress that was firm, but cushiony. A lot of the mattresses felt good, but none struck me as being just right. When I tested the Simmons 2X Firm, I bought it on the spot. This mattress was extra firm, as the name suggests, but it felt soft to my back. The terrycloth padding that tops the mattress seemed to be the right combination of soft on hard that I was seeking. It helped, however, that the mattress store offered a 30 day no-questions-asked exchange policy.

After my first night on the new mattress, I began to think I'd made a mistake. The mattress seemed much harder than the one I tested in the store. I certainly got the support I wanted, but I remembered a little more softness. Well, it took a few more nights before the mattress and its padding began to relax, and I was able to enjoy the comfort I felt in the store. It occurred to me that the demo mattress was a little more worked in than the brand new one that was delivered to my home. To date, my sleep is without any ache or discomfort whatsoever.

All the mattresses I looked at came with similar warranties and features (such as No-Turning, reinforced edge design etc.), and all were priced in the same range. I can't really speak to craftsmanship and materials that go into a mattress, but I was assured by the mattress store people that Simmons is a quality manufacturer, and the set I bought certainly looks well made.
